Record Collection

A playlist for lockdown and life

In the summer of 2020, in the midst of the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, we ran our Record Collection project. To everyone on our Boundless mailing list we sent a postcard, asking you to send us a song to get someone through, and to tell us a little bit about why you chose that song. We had responses from far and wide, and the mix was truly eclectic – from the heartrendingly sad to the uplifting and the joyous and the downright funky.

We have compiled the all the songs we’ve received so far into a playlist which will take you on an emotional journey.

You might find you need a box of tissues and your dancing shoes!

The results were emotional and inspiring.

Some of the songs and the things you said:

Tulips From Amsterdam, by Max Bygraves: “I spent a few days in Amsterdam when the flower fields were in full bloom. This song was played a lot. Something nice to bring to mind during the pandemic.”

Margaret, Livingston

I Will Always Love You, by Dolly Parton: “My husband was a huge country and western fan (he visited Nashville 6 times). He recently passed; this was the music I chose to say goodbye to him. I miss him so.”

Sheila, Livingston

Le Freak, by Chic: “This was the song my kids always insisted opened our lockdown kitchen discos. It always made us all collapse with laughter and saved my sanity on several occasions!”

Emma, St Neots
