Our Board - Overview

Generation Arts is an arts, health and wellbeing charity based in West Lothian. This organisation has been in operation for over twenty years as an unincorporated association and in March 2022 became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC051666)..

Generation Arts have ten voluntary Trustees on the Board who are from a range of backgrounds; business, teaching, finance, social care and the arts. 100% of our Trustees and staff are female, 80% are aged over 45 years and 30% have a disability/health condition/neurological learning difference. 80% (TBC) of our Board join in our arts projects on a regular basis and have personally felt the benefits of participating in the arts so are excellent advocates for our work.>

Emma Stewart-Jones - Founder and Director

Emma is an arts consultant with over thirty years experience of managing artists, arts programmes, budgets, funding and strategic ambitions. She has worked in a range of contexts from national dance agencies, to local authorities and Creative Scotland. Emma originally set up Generation Arts as a cross-departmental project when working at West Lothian Council over twenty years ago and now has the privilege of supporting the Charity as the Director.

Isobel Ross - Company and Projects Manager

Isobel has over twenty-three years experience as a community dance artist, delivering various styles of dance to children, adults and older people and to those living with various physical and neurological conditions. Isobel has worked with Generation Arts for over 20 years, in the role of support worker, dance teacher, coordinator and now supports the Charity as Company and Projects Manager.

Fiona Low - Strategic Project Manager

Fiona has over twenty years experience in arts project development and management and fundraising. Her specialism has been in working with schools and communities on creative learning projects utilising drama, film and heritage. Fiona manages the West Lothian Community Cinema Network supported by Generation Arts, which currently supports film projects and screenings in Livingston, Winchburgh and Stoneyburn. Fiona also manages work in hospitals and other NHS settings, funded by NHS Lothian Charity’s Tonic Arts fund.

Megan Black - Project Coordinator

Megan is a singer, songwriter, and performing artist originally from West Lothian. Her intention is to continue breaking down barriers in the arts and creative industries as she specialises in working with people experiencing mental illness and social isolation. Megan is the Project Coordinator and facilitator for the ‘Arts in Mind’ project as well as being a touring and recording artist making rock n roll music outside of her work with Generation Arts.

Rue Cooper

Rue Cooper is a singer, songwriter, and community music educator and practitioner from Nassau, Bahamas. With over two years of experience working across a range of community projects, outside of Generation Arts she also serves as the Lead Tutor for the North Edinburgh Community Choir (Tinderbox Collective). Rue has experience working across generations, and outside her professional work, she enjoys reading, writing poetry and short stories, and getting lost in a good video essay.
